Candles can be very romantic, but they can also burn your house down. Albert Ndreu of England went all-out to surprise his girlfriend, Valerija Madevic, with his marriage proposal, filling their apartment’s living room with 100 tea light candles and 60 balloons. He even spelled out “Marry me?” with the candles on the floor, and completed the mood with a bottle of wine and a romantic playlist. Ndreu left the apartment unattended briefly to go pick up his fiancé-to-be from work, and returned to find dark smoke billowing from his apartment. Three fire crews from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene and no one was injured. Ndreu was undeterred and still got down on one knee to propose even as sirens blared—and Madevic said yes. He told South West News Service, “I wanted to say something like she was the light of my heart, but maybe that was too much light. I was so worried about everything going wrong I never imagined I could set the house on fire.” The bride-to-be added, “You can replace things in the house, but not our love for each other. But Albert is banned from candles and balloons for a while, even with his birthday coming up.”

Who knew a man’s stomach has an impact on his attraction to various breast sizes. University of Westminster researchers found that the hungrier male college students were, the more likely they were to choose a computer-generated figure of a woman with large breasts as most attractive. In fact, the hungrier male participants were more likely to select the figures with “large” and “very large” breasts, while men who reported being full were more likely to select figures with “small” and “medium” breasts as most attractive. The researchers say a woman’s breast size is linked to how much fat storage she has in her body, but can also be affected by diet and how much she eats. Therefore, men may unconsciously link a woman with larger breasts as having access to more resources, and from a survival, caveman standpoint, it makes sense a hungry man would be more attracted to a woman with larger breasts. The study also found that men from very poor and isolated areas tended to prefer the largest busts on women. One major takeaway from this study: men’s preference for breast sizes seems to be temporary and can change frequently.

There’s a new dating app trend dubbed “wokefishing” by Vice’s Serena Smith, which is when someone tricks someone else on a dating app into talking to them or going out with them by pretending to be more politically progressive than they really are, either in their profile or during initial conversations. Smith wrote: “A wokefish may at first present themselves as a protest-attending, sex-positive, anti-racist, intersectional feminist who drinks ethically sourced oat milk and has read the back catalogue of Audre Lorde, twice. But in reality, they don’t give a s***.” The problem, of course, is if the relationship goes anywhere, the wokefish will be found out soon enough, unless they want to continue to hide their political views for as long as the relationship lasts.

Domino’s Pizza Giving Away Free Pies To “Karens”: News.com.au claims Domino’s Pizza restaurants in Australia are capitalizing on the ‘Karen’ craze by giving away free pizzas to women named Karen.

The website quotes a Domino’s representative as saying, “In 2020, ‘Karen’ is no longer content to speak to the manager. Now, she’s dobbing in her neighbors, refusing to quarantine, or wear a mask. Consequently, the name ‘Karen’ has become synonymous with anyone who is entitled, selfish and likes to complain. What used to be a lighthearted meme has become quite the insult to anyone actually named Karen. Well, today we’re taking the name Karen back. At Domino’s, we’re all about bringing people together and we want to celebrate all the great Karens out there by shouting them a free pizza!”

Urban Dictionary defines a ‘Karen’ as “a Karen is a kind of person who is unhappy when little things don’t go their way. They are a, “Can I speak to your manager?” kind of gal. The soccer mom of her friend group that nobody likes.’’

Wikipedia defines a ‘Karen’ as ‘‘’a Karen is a term used for a woman perceived as entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is appropriate or necessary. A common stereotype is that of a white woman who uses her privilege to demand her own way at the expense of others.  As of 2020, the term was increasingly being used as a general-purpose term of disapproval for middle-aged white women.”

Man falls through floor of home, plunges down 30-foot well: Talk about good luck. Firefighters in Connecticut say a man survived with only minor injuries after he fell through the floor of a friend’s home and plunged nearly 30 feet down a well under the house. The Guilford Fire Department and Guilford Police Department say Christopher Town was helping a friend move furniture into the home when the floor underneath him gave way and he fell nearly 30 feet down into a well under the house, landing in the cold water at the bottom. The police department says the well was likely located outside the house when it was built in 1843, and the hole was covered when the home was renovated and added to in 1981. Firefighters tossed down a flotation device to help Town stay afloat while they worked to hoist him up and out. He suffered only minor injuries from his fall and was treated at a local hospital.

Why Do Cats Like to Knock Things Over? Cats have a reputation for knocking things over. You can find tons of videos online of them knocking things off dressers, countertops, and more—and they don’t care if it’s an expensive vase or just a set of car keys. But why do they do this? Cathy Bosley, certified feline training and behavior specialist says, “Most cats knock items off the tables and counters to get attention or to simply play with the item.” If the behavior is frequent, make sure you’re meeting all your pet’s needs. For example, maybe you cat does it when you oversleep and she wants to remind you it’s time to feed her, or maybe you’ve been working from home for a few hours and she wants more attention. Also, to help with kitty boredom you’ll have to keep the animal’s toys in rotation so they consistently have new things to bat around. To prevent then knocking things over, Bosley says you can make the counter or table unappealing by making sure there are no items there to catch the animal’s attention, or add a deterrent that will emit a sound or a puff of air when it detects motion of the cat jumping up on the surface. Another option: redirect your pet’s attention by distracting them with a toy before they jump up, or, if they do jump up, just leave the room and ignore them as they’re likely doing it for attention
